Chief Minister seeks Central nod for Russian participation in Vizhinjam Project

Posted on 19 Feb 2007
New Delhi: Kerala today asked the Centre to explore the possibility of involving a Russian public sector firm in the construction of the much delayed Vizhinjam harbour project in Trivandrum.

Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan told mediapersons here that he had discussed the issue with Defence Minister A K Antony.

He said the Russian company Rosoboron Services (which is a nodal company of India Russian Military) had expressed interest in the project in the wake of the denial of permission by the Centre to a Chinese company, which was selected through a global tender for the execution of the Vizhinjam project, on security grounds.

Mr Achuthanandan said he urged Mr Antony to inquire about the Russian firm and explore the possibility of their participation in the project so that further delay in the execution of the Vizhinjam harbour could be avoided.
