The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report on the Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd. (VISL) project is expected to be published by December, after which public hearings will be conducted and a detailed report will be submitted to the Centre, a statement issued here by VISL managing director and CEO A.S. Suresh Babu said.

The CEO said the EIA, which should have actually been completed by September this year, after an extension to the original completion date of July 2012, was delayed owing to various complaints that came up from different quarters, including the Hotel and Restaurant Owners Association.

VISL had submitted a note to the Centre pointing out that the complaints did not stand since the study was being carried out as per the terms of reference laid down by the Centre. The study report would be completed by December and after incorporating the suggestions that came up in the subsequent public hearings, a detailed report would be submitted to the Centre for approval.
